Managed Isolation and Quarantine staff

On any given day there are around 4,500 people working in our 31 facilities. The number can change, based on capacity demands and the needs of returnees. Staff work in shifts, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Staff in the facilities come from a broad range of groups, including the New Zealand Defence Force, the Ministry of Health, New Zealand Police, District Health Boards, the Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment (MBIE), Aviation Security, private security firms and hotel staff.

MBIE engages with a range of providers to deliver services in MIQ facilities, for example chefs and cleaners. It is up to each individual provider how many workers they use to deliver those services in a particular facility.

These thousands of dedicated workers are New Zealand’s frontline defence against COVID-19. Every day they put themselves between us and the virus, to keep returning New Zealanders and our communities safe.
